Flanders and the Netherlands will intensify their cooperation to remove outstanding issues for citizens as a result of the border. This was agreed by Minister-president Geert Bourgeois and the Dutch Secretary of State for Home Affairs, Raymond Knops, in Brussels on 24 May.
During their first meeting Secretary of State Knops and Minister-president Bourgeois spoke about the broad field of intense Flemish-Dutch relations.
Minister Ben Weyts also met his Dutch colleague a few days earlier. He had an introductory meeting with the Dutch State Secretary for Infrastructure & Water Management, Stientje van Veldhoven, on 22 May. Van Veldhoven is also responsible for the Dutch railway. The Ministers agreed to work out a joint plan for the improvement of the rail corridors for freight and passenger transport, which benefits both the Netherlands and Flanders.
A new Flemish-Dutch summit on deepening the strategic cooperation will take place in Middelburg on 5 November.
