On 2 and 3 May, Minister for Tourism Ben Weyts visited the 5th UNWTO World Forum on Gastronomy Tourism in San Sebastián, Basque Country. During this edition, Flanders and the city of Bruges have officially been presented as host for the 6th edition of the congress in 2020.
As host region for the next edition of the world forum, Flanders invited 200 international policy makers in San Sebastián for a 'welcome dinner'. During the walking dinner, guests had the chance to taste different ‘Flanders’ classics’ by Flanders Kitchen Rebel chef Tom Vermeiren.
Every year, the UNWTO Forum is alternately organized in San Sebastian and a host country. Returning to its origins in San Sebastian, the 5th edition of the Forum brought together Ministers of Tourism, representatives from National and Local Tourism Administrations, chefs, entrepreneurs, academia and related stakeholders from tourism and gastronomy.
This year’s edition of the UNWTO World Forum on Gastronomy Tourism focused on job creation and entrepreneurship as a means to advance tourism’s contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
