The Western Sahara is a former Spanish colony in the west of North Africa. Morocco has occupied the Western Sahara since the departure of the Spanish colonial administration, but no other state recognises Moroccan sovereignty over the area. The United Nations consider the Western Sahara to be a Non-Self-Governing Territory.
