Secretary General Koen Verlaeckt congratulates Georgian ambassador Zurab Pololikashvili with his appointment as Secretary General of UNWTO, the United Nations World Tourism Organization. The successor of Taleb Rifai (see picture) was elected by consensus at the 22nd UNWTO General Assembly which took place from 11 to 16 September in Chengdu, China.
The General Assembly of UNWTO designated Flanders for a new term as the representative of the associated members in the Executive Council and in the Program & Budget Committee of the organization. Flanders contributes actively to achieve the objectives of the organization and looks forward to close cooperation with the new head of UNWTO and his staff.
