On 29 May, Minister-president Bourgeois received UN Special Rapporteur on human rights and counter-terrorism, Fionnuala Ni Aoláin in Brussels. He briefly presented the Flemish Action Plan for the prevention of radicalization and some good practices.
The Special Rapporteur pays an extensive visit to our country. She is not only here to talk to the policy makers, but also to visit projects in the field. Like the Network of Islam Experts. This network, coordinated by Khalid Benhaddou, provides information about the Islam and radicalization among youngsters to schools and youth organisations.
During his meeting Minister-President Bourgeois stressed the importance of active integration and societal participation as well as intercultural dialogue. He also pointed out three elements of the Flemish action plan. He emphasized the focus on prevention and early detection of radicalization. He went deeper into the cross policy area approach and the importance of coordination, consultation and adjustment.
Special Rapporteur Ni Aoláin will issue a report with recommendations in 2019.
