In December 2001, the Government of Flanders founded the Flanders - ILO Trust fund. The funds are used for activities that correspond to the ILO's strategic objectives and to the thematic and geographical priorities of the Flemish foreign policy. A donation to the trustfund is made every 2 years.
Since the renewal of the cooperation agreement between the Government and ILO in 2016, the priority is on promoting decent work for women and young people, with particular attention to social dialogue. Geographically there is a preference for Southern Africa. Annex I to the cooperation agreement deals with the specific modalities associated with the functioning of the Flanders ILO Trust fund.
