“Technology for Extension to Smallholders Programme” (ASI) (2012)
Duration: 2012-2014 Budget: 750.000 euro With this pilot project, Agribusiness Systems International (ASI) wants to implement, within the Department of Agricultural Extension Services (DAES), an existing system which disseminates market information by SMS. Duration and budget In 2012, the Government of Flanders decided to contribute to this innovative project, the pilot phase of which will be concluded in 2014. An amount of 750,000 euros was earmarked. Problem definition The agricultural sector is essential for food production in Malawi.

United Nations World Food Programme : food aid for Syrian refugees (2014)
Project: food aid for Syrian refugees Beneficiary: World Food Programme Duration: 2014 Budget: 110.000 euro 3 million Syrian refugees are registered in neighboring Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq and Turkey. The World Food programme helps these refugess through a system of food credits (electronic coupons) so they can buy local food.

Project: The power of greenery in dark times Beneficiary: Koninklijke Maatschappij voor Landbouw en Plantkunde Amount: 108.716,13 euro Duration: April 2016 Having been hosted at Flanders Expo for 26 years, the Floralies return to the Ghent city centre at no fewer than four separate locations this edition. Flower and plant aficionados are sure to go from surprise to surprise this spring. The Floralies also feature a commemorative garden dedicated to the Great War Centenary, designed by ‘buro voor vrije ruimte’.

Project: technical asistance for the financial management of the Ministry of Health Malawi Beneficiary: DFID (Department for International Development - British development cooperation) Duration: 2013-2014 Budget: 516.710 euro Just like in Mozambique, the Government of Flanders invests in the health sector through an annual contribution to the SWAp. This sectoral budget support enables the Malawi Government to implement the Health Sector Strategic Plan in close consultation with the donors.

Support to the coffee sector in Malawi 2010
Duration: 2010-2012 Budget: 500.000 euro This project is intended to improve the living conditions of smallholder coffee farmers in Malawi by grouping and better organising the farmers, so as to enable them to bring more qualitative crops on the market jointly. This will lead to an increase in their incomes, which is also owing to the Fair Trade system. Duration and budget The project started in 2010 and will last for three years.

Support to the ASWAp-SP through the Multi Donor Trust Fund (Malawi 2012)
Project: strengthening the impact of the investments on food security and sustainable growth in the agricultural sector Duration: 2012 Budget: 5.300.000 euro beneficiary: Multi Donor Trust Fund (MDTF) In mutual agreement with the donor community, Malawi is taking steps towards a form of sectorial budget support within the agricultural sector. This so called ASWAp is not operational yet, but in anticipation, the ASWAp-Support Programme has already been started up. The financing of this ASWAp-SP goes through a Multi Donor Trust Fund (MDTF) which is managed by the World Bank.

Strengthening the Department of Agricultural Extension Services Malawi 2010
Duration: 2010-2013 Budget: 2.000.000 euro The support to the Department of Agricultural Extension Services (DAES) runs in parallel with the programme that is aimed at building the capacity of agricultural extension workers. Duration and budget The Government of Flanders invests 2 million euros in the extension of the material used by the Malawi Department of Agricultural Extension Services. This project started in 2010 and ends in 2013. Problem definition It is the duty of DAES to provide good and accurate agricultural information to farmers in Malawi.

Statue of John McCrae unveiled in Ottawa (2015)
Project: Statue of John McCrae unveiled in Ottawa Beneficiary: Royal Canadian Artillery Heritage Trust Amount: 50.000 CAD Duration: May 2015 On Sunday, May 3rd in the Canadian capital Ottawa a statue was unveiled to commemorate the Canadian military physician John McCrae (1872-1918). John McCrae fought during World War I as a volunteer with the Allied Forces and was stationed near Ypres. There he wrote in early May 1915 the famous poem "In Flanders Fields" in memory of his fallen friend, former student and fellow soldier Lt. Alex Helmer.

Renewal cooperation Flanders and UNAIDS (2015)
Project: cooperation agreement UNAIDS beneficiary: UNAIDS Duration: 2015-2018 Budget: 3.000.000 euro Sub sahara Africa remains the region with the highest number of people living with HIV and AIDS (PLHIV). Of the currently 35 million PLHIV, there are 24.7 million (70%!) In this region, while this region houses only 13% of the world's population. With the cooperation agreement, Flanders will continue to support UNAIDS at level of headquarters and country offices in 8 countries in the SAC region.

Renewal cooperation agreement UNAIDS, 2015-2018
Duration: 2015-2018 Budget: 3.000.000 euro In 2000, the Government of Flanders approved its first project for UNAIDS. The Government acknowledged the importance of the global fight against HIV and AIDS. With this renewed cooperation agreement, the Flemish Government wants to promote access to sexual and reproductive health and rights at the global level and especially in the partner countries.

Project: international commemoration of the Third Battle of Ypres Beneficiary: Society Passchendaele Society vzw Amount: 140.000 euro Duration: July 2017 - November 2017 The project is based on the international commemoration of some dramatic historical moments of the Third Battle of Ypres on the particular day (exactly 100 years after the fact), knowingly places (Tyne Cot Cemetery, Crest Farm, Gravenstafel, Belle vue , Polygon Wood, Frezenberg ...) and (representatives of) countries, Britain, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, France and Germany.

Project: ‘Strengthening Farmer Organisations and Rural Structured Trade Mechanisms in Malawi’ Beneficiary: World Food Programme Duration: 2014-2018 Budget: 2.999.140,62€ The World Food Programme (WFP) and the Agricultural Commodity Exchange for Africa (ACE) join forces to implement this project. In 2009 the WFP launched the Purchase for Progress (P4P) programme to help smallholder farmers and their organisations gain access to the WFP market by linking WFP’s demand for basic food to the supply of smallholder farmers.

Preventing mother to child HIV transmission
Duration: 2012-2014 Budget: 260.000 Within the framework of the strategy paper between Flanders and Mozambique this project is situated in the sector of health care and reproductive health. Preventing mother to child transmission (PMTCT) of HIV is one of the priorities of the Mozambique Ministry of Health. Duration and budget An amount of 260,000 euros has been appropriated for this project which ends in 2014. Problem definition Just like other countries in southern Africa, Mozambique has to contend with the consequences of the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

Duration and budget An amount of 275,000 euros was earmarked for this programme on the 2011 budget. Problem definition About 98% of the victims of climate disasters live in developing countries. These countries are more sensitive to climate change.
