Preventing mother to child HIV transmission
Duration: 2012-2014 Budget: 260.000 Within the framework of the strategy paper between Flanders and Mozambique this project is situated in the sector of health care and reproductive health. Preventing mother to child transmission (PMTCT) of HIV is one of the priorities of the Mozambique Ministry of Health. Duration and budget An amount of 260,000 euros has been appropriated for this project which ends in 2014. Problem definition Just like other countries in southern Africa, Mozambique has to contend with the consequences of the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

Mozambique: Reinforcement of the movement for women's rights (Forum Mulher) (2013)
Project: promoting the sexual and reproductive rights of women and girls, and the combat on violence against women Beneficiary: www.forumulher.org.mz Duration: 2013-2016 Budget: 340.000 euro At the end of September 2013, the Government of Flanders decided to contribute to this initiative. The aim of the project is to improve the human rights and gender situation in Mozambique. The project was part of a strategic plan of the umbrella organisation “Forum Mulher”.

Grant to WHO for the Health System Strengthening Programme 2104 -2015 in Mozambique
Duration: 2014-2015 Budget: 1.057.897€ The World Health Organisation (WHO) wants to improve access to reproductive health systems for women in southern African countries. The present project ties in with the WHO Country Cooperation Strategy (CCS 2014-2019) for Mozambique and is the successor of a previous project that was financed by Flanders within the framework of WHO CCS 2009-2011.

Duration: 2009 Budget: 980.000 The United Nation’s World Food Programme (WFP) wants to eradicate hunger worldwide. WFP tries to accomplish this by creating country programmes. These programmes are designed to increase the production capacity of small farmers and merchants. Additionally, the augmentation of the merchants’ commercial reflex is also aimed at. Duration and budget For two years, Flanders supported the WFP’s Purchase for Progress (P4P) programme in Mozambique.

Partner: United Nations System Standing Committee on Nutrition (UNSCN) Duration: 2012-2014 Budget: 516.500 euro In 2012, the Government of Flanders decided to help support the United Nations System Standing Committee on Nutrition (UNSCN). Nutrition and food security (MDG 1) take centre stage in Flemish development cooperation and feature in the cooperation with the partner countries Malawi, Mozambique and South Africa. Hunger and poverty continue to pose serious problems in several African countries.

Project: Improve the overall health policy of Mozambique Beneficiary: Mozambican Ministry of Health (MISAU) Duration: 2015 Budget: 1,971,086 euros On July 30, 2008, the Mozambican Government and a group of 19 donors, including Flanders, signed the Memorandum of Understanding regarding PROSAUDE II. This will create a single financing mechanism (sector fund) for the financial contributions of international donors to the health sector and assistance in the form of general budget support.

Project: “Realizing younger adolescents’ sexual and reproductive rights” Beneficiary: The Intenational Centre for Reproductive Health Mozambique (ICRH-Mozambique) Amount: 1.119.810 euros Duration: 2018 - 2021 The project is based on existing partnerships and experiences between Flanders and ICHR-Mozambique. The aim of the initiative is to focus on young adolescents and to increase the sexual education of this group. The direct target group consists of 5000 girls and 5000 boys between 10 and 19 years.

Based on this, ILO works, in cooperation with the government of the country in question, on a tailored global strategy. Over the past 10 years, the Mozambican economy has been characterized by a significant growth.

Project: Grant to the African Climate Change Fund Beneficiary: African climate Change fund period: 2017-2018 Amount: 2.000.000 euro According a study by Climate Policy Initiative in 2013-2014, only 3% of global climate funding went to Sub Saharan Africa. This contrasts with the finding that Sub-Saharan Africa is the region with the lowest contribution to climate change, but with the highest vulnerability to climate change impacts. It is known that these countries find it more difficult to raise climate finance.

Grant to Pathfinder International for ‘Strengthening the Capacity of Youth Civil Society in Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights’ (2015)
Duration: 2015-2016 Budget: 250.000€ According to data from the Mozambique National Health Institute (INS) the HIV prevalence in Mozambican girls is three times as high as in boys. Due to gender inequality and a limited possibility to protect the position of women at policy level, women's rights are frequently violated.
