FAO project 'strengthening integrated adaptation planning and implementation in small-scale farming systems in Southern Africa'
Duration: 4 years Budget: 3.500.000 The Government of Flanders focuses on structural measures and works closely with the United Nations Organization for Agriculture and Food (FAO). From 2016 till 2019, FAO will assist Malawi, Mozambique and Zambia to increase the climate resilience and food security of local farmers. Lessons learned from this program will be brought to the FAO global level.

Grant for food security and food situation in Malawi 2007
Duration: 2007-2015 Budget: 4.100.000 Flanders works together with the Government of Malawi and FAO (Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations) around an integrated programme for the promotion of food and nutrition security. Duration and budget After the start in 2007, an interim evaluation was carried out in April 2010. This evaluation was overall positive. As a result, the second phase could start in August. For this second phase the Government of Flanders earmarked an amount of 4.1 million euros.

Support to the NGO “Small Scale Livestock and Livelihoods Program” (2013)
Duration: 2013-2015 Budget: 650.000 euro In 2009, the Government of Flanders already contributed to this organisation in the framework of a programme about capacity building among agricultural extension workers. Duration and budget This supplementary contribution amounts to 650,000 euros. The project will run from 2013 to 2015. Problem definition The agricultural sector is essential for food production in Malawi.
