On December 13 General Representative Axel Buyse was appointed Officer in the Order of Orange Nassau. He received this Dutch royal award as a token of appreciation for his contribution to Flemish-Dutch cooperation.
It was Pauline Krikke, mayor of The Hague, who officially presented the award. And this at the farewell of representaive Buyse. He leaves the Netherlands on 1 January to lead the Flemish Representation to the EU. Filip D'havé takes over the diplomatic post in The Hague.
Axel Buyse received the appointment as Officer in the Order of Orange Nassau for the way in which he fulfilled his role as Representative of the Government of Flanders in the Netherlands and demonstrably contributed to the position of the Dutch language area in Europe. The appointment is an expression of appreciation from the Dutch head of state for persons who have made themselves very deserving for Dutch society.
