On June 4, the Diplomatic Representative of Flanders in Southern Africa took part, on behalf of Belgium, in the Article 8 Political Dialogue between the EU and Malawi, which took place in Lilongwe.
Topics on the agenda included: Malawi's upcoming SADC presidency; public sector reforms in Malawi and the COP26.
The Dialogue was conducted under Article 8 of the Cotonou Partnership Agreement between the EU and the African, Caribbean and Pacific States, and is part of the regular political dialogue between Malawi and the EU on national, regional and global issues of mutual interest.
Following the Political Dialogue, there was also a meeting with Malawi's President Lazarus Chakwera. This meeting was also very constructive. The president looked back on the past year and shared his priorities for his further presidency and the SADC presidency. The Diplomatic Representative of Flanders confirmed Flanders' commitment to support the development of Malawi and the policies of the new government, especially in the agricultural sector.
