On June 17, a digital consultation took place between Minister-President Jan Jambon and British Minister for Europe, Wendy Morton.
Minister-President Jambon emphasized the strong ties between the United Kingdom and Flanders in the fields of trade, research, education, digitization and culture. The Minister-President indicated that he wants to maintain and expand these good relations, also outside the EU framework. Mutual added value can be created by sharing knowledge, especially in the field of digitization, sustainability and mobility. Minister Morton also reflected on the importance of maritime ports.
The Irish Protocol was also discussed extensively. The British government hopes the EU will support efforts to restore stability. The Minister-President emphasized that Flanders has always been a constructive partner during the Brexit negotiations and that he was satisfied with the agreement reached.
Also on the agenda were the COP26 and the COVID-19 crisis.
