From 27 to 29 January, Minister of Culture Sven Gatz paid a visit to Casablanca and Rabat, Morocco to encourage closer cooperation with the country's arts sector. As part of the official mission, Flemish-Moroccan culture house Darna and several arts and culture organisations were represented on the trip.
The cultural mission of Minister Gatz to Morocco started with a visit to the cultural institution L’Uzine, followed by a network event with cultural actors from the vital and global Casablanca. Several meetings with cultural actors, including from dance, film, design and music sectors, were held in Rabat. “This mission should allow both formal and informal cultural actors to build up a broader network in Flanders and with Morocco.”
On 29 January, the minister visited the Moroccan Film Institute, the 'Centre Cinématographique Marocain', in the capital Rabat. He concluded his cultural mission with a visit to the Grand Théatre de Rabat, a project by Zaha Hadid Architect (under construction).
This working visit offered many perspectives, especially for the film sector. “We hope to open up even more avenues for co-operation at a higher level in Morocco,” said Gatz. “In particular, we are looking to encourage and formalise more co-operations within the film sector.”
