As of 1 September, May Persoons starts as General Representative of the Government of Flanders in the United Kingdom. She temporarily takes over from André Hebbelinck.
May Persoons has been working for the Flemish government since 2005 and has built up extensive experience in foreign policy over the years. Among other things, she was project leader of the Flemish presidency of REGLEG (2008), managed as team leader the bilateral cooperation and was a member of the project team "The Great War Centenary" (commemoration 100 Years of World War I). During the previous legislature, Mrs Persoons worked as foreign policy advisor for minister-president Geert Bourgeois.
André Hebbelinck returns to the head office in Brussels where, building on his years of experience as Flemish diplomat, he will strengthen the department's research centre.
