On 10 June 2022, the fifth work programme between Flanders and Catalonia was signed during a Joint Committee for cooperation. The programme will run from 2022 until 2024 and will focus on digitization, institutional cooperation, marine research & innovation, blue economy, innovation and internationalization (business & trade), culture, youth, health, social affairs etc.
Flanders and Catalonia have maintained good political contacts for more than three decades. In 2008, this resulted in a cooperation agreement that translated these good political contacts into official cooperation.
In order to steer this official cooperation in the right direction, every two to three years a joint work programme is drawn up in which the themes and the working method are planned.
Of the last, fourth, work programme 2019 -2021 that was approved on the fourth of April 2019 in Barcelona, little or nothing could be implemented due to two years of pandemic.
The fifth work programme shows the ambition of both partners to further deepen their constructive cooperation.
