Today, 10 December is International Human Rights Day. 71 years ago, in 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted by the United Nations.
These universal human rights are and have been for quite some time an important touchstone for Flemish foreign policy. The new coalition agreement (2019-2024) also clearly states that Flemish international policy cannot be value-free. Flanders is fully committed to respecting human rights.
This commitment is translated into clear policy choices. The emphasis is placed on four groups of human rights: respect for the physical integrity of every person, combating all forms of discrimination, respect for the rights of the child and the promotion of the right to decent working conditions.
