The very first Flemish Week in North Rhine Westphalia kicked off with an opening concert in Aachen on the 17th of March. The Flemish Week includes conferences, workshops and exhibitions covering a wide variety of topics and runs until 24 March.
Minister-president Geert Bourgeois and his counterpart Armin Laschet opened a concert by ensemble Zefiro Torna on the 17th of March. The ensemble performed together with top students from Musikschule der Stadt Aachen. The festival opening continued in Bonn with a concert by the new Leuven orchestra Le Concert Olympique. Specialising in music by Beethoven, the orchestra played in the city’s Beethoven house.
On Monday 18 March, a port day in Düsseldorf and an energy conference on renewable energy and e-mobility were organized. On Tuesday the central theme was education and later this week conferences and meetings around health care, integration, the environment, chemicals and cinema are planned.
Flemish ministers have embarked on several co-operation agreements with the German region of North Rhine-Westphalia over the years in such areas as culture, labour market integration, energy and transport. In January of this year, no fewer than 17 cross-border co-operation agreements were signed between the regions.
Flämische Woche NRW is organized by the Representation of the Government of Flanders in Germany.
