On 13 December, the European Commission organized the Export Control Forum 2018. For the second year in a row, the Commission invited the Department Foreign Affairs to participate in the panel discussions. A nice recognition for the implemented policy and the innovative initiatives from Flanders.
Every year the European Commission organizes a major conference on export control policy. Representatives of export control services and other public services from within and outside the EU participate. Just like representatives from the industry, NGOs and international think tanks. Through 8 panel discussions, EU member states and the European Commission present the policy pursued and elaborate on the defended policy positions at international level.
Together with the Netherlands, Germany and France, Flanders was among the speakers from the EU. The Flemish export control was invited for two panel discussions. Johan Evers, engineer at the Strategic Goods Control Unit of the Foreign Affairs Department and also chairman of the ICP Technical Experts Group, gave an overview of the results achieved by this TEG regarding internal compliance programs (ICPs). Head of unit Michael Peeters presented the outreach program that the Flemish government set up together with Flemish universities and strategic knowledge centers.
The Flemish government pursues a progressive, innovative and future-oriented policy in various export control areas. The representation in the panels of this forum, for successive years, is not only an illustration of but also a recognition for the high-quality export control policy and initiatives from Flanders.
