On 12 June, the New York City Mayor's Office received 5000 face shields, donated by the General Representation in the USA and the American division of games manufacturer Cartamundi. The face shields will be distributed to health care workers, hospitals and those in need of medical protective supplies.
The American division of Cartamundi, the Flanders’ based world leader in card and board games, was looking for ways to help combat the coronavirus. Philip Wauters, Executive Vice President of Cartamundi USA: “With an acute nationwide shortage of protective materials for frontline healthcare workers, we decided to design and manufacture face shields in our facilities in Dallas, TX and East Longmeadow, MA. Together with our customer Hasbro, we are donating the face shields to the organisations that need them the most.”
General Representative Wantens was also looking for ways to help the city of New York and its inhabitants: “New York City is the hardest hit city in all of the United States. It is also the city where the offices of the Flemish government agencies are located on the East Coast."
Cartamundi's solidarity efforts in producing and donating face shields inspired Flanders House New York and culminated in this joint action.
