Minister-president Jambon called a meeting of the Brexit Task Force on 21 October to discuss the latest developments regarding Brexit and all possible scenarios.
Minister-president Jambon, Deputy Minister-President Crevits and Minister Peeters sat together with representatives of the policy areas and sectors that will be first and most affected by Brexit. Various scenarios and the prepared and planned measures were discussed. At the same time, this meeting was an opportunity to identify additional concerns and shortcomings.
"Hopefully we can move forward fast and focus on a future ambitious relationship with the UK. I continue to insist - within the EU - on compensating measures for the economies most affected by Brexit (even in the case of a deal)”, said Minister-president Jambon afterwards.
According to Deputy Minister-President Hilde Crevits, Flanders has a package of measures ready. "Measures in the economic field, in the field of jobs and in the field of agriculture and fisheries. Our advisers are ready to support our companies, by providing tailor-made guidance and financial support."
Flanders also wants to respond to Brexit developments in the field of logistics. "We have an emergency plan and a communication strategy in place with regard to the various traffic scenarios and we are also prepared to anticipate potential problems at sea within the fisheries sector," said Minister Lydia Peeters.
