  • November 21, 2018

On the 21st of November, Minister-president Geert Bourgeois received Ivan McKee, Scottish Minister for Trade, Investment and Innovation. The ministers discussed their concerns regarding the consequences of Brexit.

The United Kingdom’s imminent departure from the EU entails considerable challenges for both states. “If the UK Parliament rejects the Withdrawal Agreement, the worst case scenario of a ‘no-deal’ comes awfully close,” according to Minister-president Bourgeois. Minister McKee expressed his concerns about the current degree of involvement of Scotland in the internal UK Brexit decision-making process.

On the 16th of November, the Government of Flanders approved an action plan to prepare Flanders for all Brexit scenarios, including a ‘no deal’-scenario. The action plan is strongly focused on raising awareness and informing Flemish companies about the consequences of Brexit.
