The General Representation in New York took part in the "My Ocean Pledge" project of UNESCO on June 8th. Representative Geert De Proost signed together with UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova, the pledge to protect the oceans.
On 8 June, World Ocean Day, children living near marine world heritage sites launched a call to protect our oceans. This symbolic action, at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, was the initiative of the UNESCO Marine World Heritage Programme, led by the Flemish Fanny Douvere. This programme has rapidly become an important global player in the field of ocean protection, partly due to the continuous support from Flanders.
Therefore, the Flemish Representation in New York fully supported this action. Just as Minister-president Bourgeois who signed the Ocean Pledge and called upon the Flemish people to do the same.
