On 14 November, Minister-president Bourgeois met with Mr. Karl Erjavec, Slovenian Vice Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs. Minister Erjavec was in Brussels for the EU Foreign Affairs Council and afterwards made time for a meeting at the Cabinet.
They discussed the bilateral trade between Flanders and Slovenia which increases every year, current topics such as Brexit, the presidential elections in the USA, the relationship with Russia and the situation in the Middle East.
Slovenia has been a highly rated bilateral partner for many years now. Flanders is diplomatically represented in Slovenia by the General Representative of the Government of Flanders in Vienna. A cooperation agreement between the two governments was signed in 1998. In recent years the intense cultural exchanges and the cooperation of the Slovenian Science Foundation and FWO stood out.
Minister-president Bourgeois and Minister Erjavec agreed to deepen the cooperation in areas where both Flanders and Slovenia can learn from each other, and to identify and defend common interests at the European level.
