From 6 to 9 July, Minister of Culture Sven Gatz visited the festival of Marseille and Avignon. During the weekend of 7 July, Gatz was invited at the Marseille theatre-/dance festival, led by Flemish director Jan Goossens since 2016.

During his four day mission, the Minister paid a visit to the impressive Musée des Civilisations de l'Europe et de la Méditerrannée (MUCEM), which was built on the occasion of the 2013 European Capital of Culture in Marseille. Together with his French colleague Françoise Nyssen, Gatz attended the performance 'Requiem pour L', in the presence of Ghentian choreographer and director Alain Platel and musician Fabrizio Cassol.

Gatz finished his cultural visit to France on Monday. In Avignon he had a meeting with Olivier Py, director of the festival. Gatz also visited ‘Le Théâtre Les Doms’, the permanent base for artists of the French community in Avignon. At the end of his visit, the Minister also attended the performance ‘La Rose en Céramique’, created by Alexander Vantourhout, Flemish dancer and circus artist.
