Japan is an ancient island kingdom off the east coast of Asia. After centuries of isolation, it opened its doors to the world in the second half of the nineteenth century, and soon became an economic superpower. Flanders has for more than 40 years a Flanders Center in Japan that is committed to strengthening cultural cooperation. Japan is also an important investor in Flanders with a total of approximately 48 Japanese companies. It goes without saying that Flanders has an economic representative in Tokyo.
