Holocaust survivor Marian Turski visited Flanders on 19 and 20 September at the invitation of Yves Wantes, General Representative of Flanders in Poland.
Turski, one of the last Holocaust survivors, was received by Secretary-General Koen Verlaeckt (see picture). Furthermore a visit to the Flemish Parliament, a discussion with chairman Jan Peumans and a visit to to the Holocaust Museum, Kazerne Dossin in Mechelen was scheduled.
The 91-year-old Turski was captured during WOII in Auschwitz and Buchenwald. After his liberation, the historian and journalist devoted his life to defending human rights. Today he is chairman of the Jewish Historical Institute in Warschau and one of the founders of POLIN, the Museum of Polish Jews.
