Project: Reinforcement of the Health System Management of the Health Care Administration of the Province Tete in Mozambique through international technical assistance
Beneficiary: BTC (Belgian Development Agency)
Amount: 616.130 euros
Period: 2017 – 2019
Due to the announced withdrawal of the Danish development cooperation from the province of Tete, the implementation of the strategic plan for the health sector in Tete is jeopardized due to the lack of expertise.
With the Flemish subsidy to the BTC the provincial Healthcare Administration can call on the expertise and technical support of the BTC for a period of 2 years. BTC is already active in Mozambique, has extensive experience with working with different donors, and can rely on an international network of experts in different disciplines.
As stipulated in the the Mozambique Country Strategy Paper (2016-2020), Flanders focusses on strengthening the healthcare system in Mozambique and has a regional focus on Tete. The province of Tete has a very specific situation which makes the healthcare problems more complex and different from other provinces. It is also a very poor province with high grades in maternal and child mortality, teenage pregnancies, diseases such as HIV, tuberculosis and malaria, and with a high inequality.
Beside Flanders, there are few international donors working in Tete.
