Grant for project Culture, public spaces and sustainable cities, 2019

Project: Study, pilot projects and toolkit on the contribution of culture to inclusive, public, urban spaces

Beneficiary: UNESCO

Duration: 2019-2020

Budget: 250.000 USD

In line with UNESCO’s commitment to advocate for the essential role of culture in achieving sustainable cities, the project will explore more specifically ways in which culture and creativity can contribute to building more inclusive public spaces, a key transformative commitment within the UN’s New Urban Agenda.

Through in-depth desk study, the development of operational strategies, the implementation of two on-site experimental projects in Harare (Zimbabwe) and Cape Town (South Africa) as well as targeted dissemination and advocacy activities, the project will develop guidance and operational material for cities to design more inclusive public spaces, building on their cultural and creative resources.
