Grant for agriculture sector support in Malawi (2018)

Project: Agriculture Sector Wide Approach (ASWAp) in Malawi

Beneficiary: Multi Donor Trust Fund (MDTF)

Duration: 2017-2022

Budget: 5.500.000 euro

In its cooperation with Malawi, Flanders explicitly chooses to focus on developing a sustainable and climate smart agricultural sector to contribute to food security and safety of small-scale farmers. For this project, the Government of Flanders granted 5.500.000 euros to support around 300 000 families in rural areas in Malawi in order to make the change towards market-oriented farming.

In 2011, the Government of Malawi launched the Agriculture Sector Wide Approach (ASWAp) to give direction to all sectors in the agricultural sector. As the previous project, the financing of the follow-up project (ASWAp II) will be provided through the Multi Donor Trust Fund (MDTF) under direct WorldBank supervision.

The project focuses on sustainable agriculture and diversification of food production, capacity building of the Ministry of Agriculture and cooperation and consistency of the project activities.
