On 28 June, the International Labour Organization (ILO) in Geneva presented the final report of a global survey on care economies. Flanders, which has been working closely with ILO for 25 years, co-financed the research. General Representative Kris Dierckx attended the launch of the Care Report.
The ILO investigated the care economy in more than 90 countries. In addition to identifying the organization of care, one of the focal points of the study was the continuing differences in terms of gender and background in the performance of paid and unpaid care tasks. The study shows that more than 75% of the unpaid care tasks are performed by women and girls. This is also the main stumbling block for these girls and women to build a career.
The research, started in 2016, was co-financed by Flanders and fits within the implementation of the cooperation agreement between Flanders and ILO, where the focus is also on equal opportunities and the role of women in society.
