Duration: 2013-2015
Budget: 600.000 euro
The Government of Flanders decided to allocate a contribution to the Natural Resources College (NRC) in Malawi. This training institute was already a partner of Flemish development cooperation within the framework of the programme for capacity building among agricultural extension workers.
Duration and budget
A contribution of 600,000 euros is charged to the 2013 budget. The project will start in the spring of 2013 and will last three years.
Problem definition
NRC is a public institution. That is why only the College's day-to-day costs are covered by public funds. As a result, it is very difficult to invest in the capacity building of staff and the improvement of infrastructure. NRC is the only institution in Malawi that can train agricultural extension workers. After the training, these students are employed within the Ministry or the private sector. Due to the substantial inflow of students the available maximum capacity of around 700 students is greatly insufficient. Currently, the College enrols 1,500 students on average. For these reasons, this project proposal is focused on strengthening the institutional capacity of this training institute.
