Minister-president Jambon adresses UNESCO General Conference

Minister-president Jan Jambon addressed the UNESCO General Conference on 13 November on behalf of our country. In his speech, he talked about Unesco's work on ambitious quality education, future frameworks for artificial intelligence and open science. The Minister-president also announced a new financial contribution from Flanders for science projects at UNESCO.

Minister-president Jambon: “We are happy to assist UNESCO and support the work of UNESCO by allocating extra budget resources. Last May, the Government of Flanders and UNESCO signed an updated trust fund agreement for support of UNESCO's work in the field of sciences, which has been going strong for 20 years. We aim to dedicate new financial resources to a selection of projects that is currently under evaluation in the areas of ocean science, freshwater management, biodiversity conservation and earth sciences. ”

The 40th General Conference of UNESCO, which sets out the main lines for the next two years, takes place in Paris from 12 to 27 November. Minister-president Jambon was head of the Belgian delegation during the visit co-prepared by General Representative Kris Dierckx in Paris.
