On 23 March, the Government of Flanders decided to support the International Labor Organization (ILO)’s project for the promotion of decent work on Malawi tea plantations. Almost 280.000 euro of the Flanders - ILO Trust Fund will be allocated to the project.
The goal of this project is to inform tea plantations workers in the Thyolo district in Malawi about their rights in terms of decent work and to train them to enforce these rights. The training is focused primarily on young adults and women.
This project – like all ILO projects - encourages cooperation and involvement of employers and the government which is why the project was discussed during the March visit of the Minister for Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development of Malawi, Joseph Mwanamvekh to Flanders.
