On 30 June, the Government of Flanders approved the third Country Strategy Paper for Development Cooperation 2017-2021 between Flanders and South Africa.
This new country strategy paper is aligned with the main South African policies on green economy and climate change and on the development cooperation policy of the Government of Flanders.
Where the focus of the second country strategy paper was on job creation and social entrepreneurship, it now focuses on climate change. The overall objective is to promote the transition of South Africa into a climate-resistant society with an inclusive green economy. This way, Flanders will help to overcome the threefold challenge facing South Africa, namely poverty, inequality and unemployment.
The implementation will be in the hands of several partners: government, civil society, knowledge institutions and multilateral organizations. The contribution of the private sector will be further investigated.
