From 24 to 27 April, a delegation from Ukraine visited Flanders to get acquainted with our institutional landscape and best practices on public services delivery and regional development. The visit was organized by the OECD and the Flanders Department of Foreign Affairs.
The 7 members of the delegation, all policy makers in the public sector, visited the Flemish Parliament, the city of Ghent and the Province of East Flanders. Furthermore, meetings were held with the Agency for Local and Provincial Government, VOKA (Flemish network of companies), VVSG (Association of Flemish Cities and Municipalities) and with representatives of European institution.
The study visit fits in with the OECD EURASIA Programme, which is also supported by Flanders. The EURASIA Programme aims to achieve sustainable economic growth and employment in Central Asia, Eastern Europe and South Caucasus by accelerating economic reforms and improving the business climate. The Flemish contribution to the programme is used in Ukraine. Specifically the development and implementation of an institutional framework that meets current needs in Ukraine: reforms in the area of decentralization and strengthening of public institutions at (sub) national level.
