Helen Zille, Premier of the South African province of the Western Cape, gladly accepts the invitation of Minister-president Bourgeois. During their meeting on 15 Agust, the Minister-president invited her to visit Flanders. The meeting is part of the 11-day visit of Bourgeois to Southern Africa.
Helen Zille is an icon of anti-apartheid. In the 1970s, as a journalist, she could prove that activist Steven Beko was tortured by police forces. Today, the racial issue in South Africa is still present, said Premier Minister Zille. She also pointed to the importance of economic growth, to eliminate inequality.
Minister-President Bourgeois and Premier Zille further discussed the possibilities for cooperation in the fields of education, research and climate change.
