The Government of Flanders has been active in Malawi since 2007 within the framework of development cooperation. This choice fits in the strategy of the Government of Flanders to contribute to the global Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development (SDGs).
In its cooperation with Malawi, Flanders focuses on the sector of agriculture and food security. At the end of 2023, the Government of Flanders approved the new Country Strategy Paper (CSP) 2024-2029 with Malawi. This new CSP focuses on three interconnected components: using secondary cities for inclusive rural development; promoting agricultural commercialization in selected value chains and promoting climate-smart agriculture. This is in line with the Malawi government's long-term strategy, Malawi Vision 2063
Leaving no one behind is key to this joint collaboration, which seeks to promote equal opportunities for women, men and youth. In addition, the LSN IV will continue to support the Malawian government's ongoing decentralization process. Promoting technology and innovation is an integral part of the actions.
To ensure effective implementation of the program, cooperation will be established with national and local government, civil society actors, international organizations, local communities, academia and the private sector.
