International Partnership for Microbicides (IPM) is an international NGO that works for safe and effective HIV prevention. IPM focuses on the development of new medical instruments and making them available at an affordable price in Sub-Saharan Africa. In 2004 knew Tibotec Pharmaceuticals, a Flemish biotech company, gave IPM the license to development and dissemination of a vaginal ring for women to protect them against HIV infection on the basis of the microbicidal substance dapivirine. The development of this vaginal ring is presently in the final stage. Now it is important to prepare the African population for the launch of this product in 2018.
In four countries - Malawi, South Africa, Uganda and Zimbabwe- IPM will organize activities to raise awareness for HIV prevention and the use of microbicides, specifically targeted at young women and men.
