Project: emergency aid after floods in Malawi and Mozambique

In recent weeks heavy rainfall has caused severe flooding in Mozambique and Malawi. In Mozambique the provinces of Zambézia and Nampula are affected the worst. It is feared that at least 200,000 people will soon feel the effects of the food shortage.
In Malawi especially the southern districts of Nsanje, Chikwawa, Phalombe and Zomba are affected. More than 600,000 people are in need and 120,000 are fleeing. The floods have caused major damage to the crops, food reserves and infrastructure. It is feared that the outbreak of disease due to lack of sanitation and drainage on the relocation sites.
Flanders supports both countries with a total of 329.000 euros. In Malawi the funds go to Malawi Humanitarian Emergency Response Fund (HERF). In Mozambique, to the 'One Program' Mozambique of the UN so that resources can be flexibly deployed according to the needs.
