With the support of the General Representation in Vienna, a delegation of the Flemish Peace Institute and the Flemish Parliament visited Vienna from 19 until 21 September.
The visit focused on international oganizations responsible for the monitoring of the arms trade, the promotion of disarmament and the peaceful use of nuclear energy and nuclear materials. On the agenda were meetings with the Secretariat of the Wassenaar Arrangement, OSCE Centre for Conflict Prevention, UN Office on Drugs and Crime, the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty Organization and the International Atomic Energy Agency. After two days of intense meetings, the delegation also had the opportunity to exchange views with a number of local organizations and experts in a workshop "Deradicalisation from an Austrian perspective".
The visit was an excellent opportunity to attend the opening of Jimmy Kets's exhibition "The graves are nice this time of year" at the Heeresgeschichtliche Museum Wien. Commissioned by the Flemish Peace Institute Jimmy Kets took pictures of people and places taking part in the commemoration of World War I. A selection of these pictures is on display in Vienna until the end of October 2016.
