The Parliament of Flanders approved a resolution on 4 October, strongly condemning the violence of the Spanish police force during the Catalan referendum on self-determination that took place on 1 October.
The text of the resolution states: “Violence is never the answer to conflicts”. The resolution calls on the government of Flanders to condemn the violence and to urge the international community to ‘play a facilitating and mediating role between the Spanish and Catalan government in order to achieve a peaceful and sustainable solution'.
The resolution has been unanimously approved by the majority parties and the opposition.
