Flanders has contributed annually to the UN Emergency Aid Fund since 2011. This fund ensures that people in need can be helped quickly by providing short-term and efficient resources for acute crises, but also for under funded emergencies worldwide.
In 2016, the Government of Flanders decided to double its annual contribution to 600,000 euros to ensure a predictable and efficient use of its emergency aid budget.
Als in 2017, the government grants 600,000 euros, given that humanitarian needs have never been so high since the end of World War II.
